Landscape architecture competition for the House of Arts Brno forecourt and the Koliště I park

The exhibition, opened from 22. 3. to 9. 4. at the House of the Lords of Kunštát, presents the results of an open landscape architecture competition for transforming the House of Arts’s surroundings, announced by the Brno City Chief Architect’s Office on 9 September 2022. On display are all seven proposals considered by the jury of experts on 15 and 16 December 2022.

Come and find yourselves in the middle of the action, inside the clouds of perceptions of the daily work on the development and transformation of the city of Brno. Surrounded by large-format sheets of paper undulating in space along with your movement. The city is not a machine, but a living organism that is constantly evolving together with its inhabitants. Just like in reality, the exhibition will offer diverse views and perceptions from different angles. This will take place right in the Procházka Hall of the House of Arts, with a view of the everyday street bustle.

William Matthews Associates has won an open international competition for the design of an £7.5 million new road and pedestrian bridge over the River Svitava in Brno, in the Czech Republic. The competition was organised by the Brno City Chief Architect‘s Office and is the latest in a series of competitions launched in recent months to regenerate brownfield sites across the city.

The Brno City Architect’s Office has announced the winner of an international competition to select a design for the proposed new Brno international train station, to be built in the Trnitá district on the banks of the River Svratka, a few hundred metres to the south of the existing main station. The winning design was submitted by Dutch architect’s studio Benthem Crouwel, and chosen by an expert jury from 46 entries. The completion of the project is currently estimated for between 2032 and 2035, according to Mojmír Nejezchleb, Deputy General Director for Railway Modernization at the Czech Railway Administration.

All is decided – the new Brno Main Train Station will be based on the proposal of the Dutch studio Benthem Crouwel Architects, which designed the train station in Rotterdam or the renovation and completion of the train station in Amsterdam. The winning team’s project will turn the station into Brno’s new gateway and a cornerstone for the emerging Trnitá district on the bank of Svratka River. The people of Brno will get a modern interchange hub and a guarantee of further development of the local railway transport. The decision of the expert jury, which included the architect Eva Jiřičná or the urban planner Peter Gero, was confirmed this week by the City of Brno and the Railway Administration. As the organiser of the competition, the Brno City Chief Architect’s Office will exhibit all the proposals, including a large model of the new district, in the cloister of the Brno New Town Hall at the end of September.

The Brno City Architect’s Office (KAM) has made the proposed zoning plan for Brno available as an online exhibition, to allow the public the opportunity to participate in the project. The current zoning plan has been in place since 1994 and is the oldest in the Czech Republic. The new zoning plan will be completed by the end of 2022.

The Brno City Council this week chose four teams that will vie to design a new main train station for the Moravian capital. For this last leg of the competition, the city is preparing a detailed 3-D model of the transport hub.
